Semipalmated Sandpiper Air Show
Amazing aerial acrobatic show by migratory sandpipers at Evangeline Beach, Nova Scotia near Grand Pre and Wolfville. These shore birds arrive here every August and stay for about a month to feed on marine animals found in the vast intertidal zone. The Minas Basin is part of the Bay of Fundy which has been nominated as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. I grew up at this beach, so to me, these birds are like old friends who come to visit each summer. This year there were 1000s of them, and probably the most I can remember in my life time. The point of view of this video is that of me swimming in the water with my waterproof camera at extreme high tide during the August full moon. Swimming while the birds zoom around your head looking for dry land to roost on is a magical experience that I thought I would share with you all.
