Discover: South Samar

The Municipalities of Sta. Rita, Basey and Marabut are known as the South Samar Municipalities. These three municipalities are noted for its beautiful and natural wonders. The caves, the rock formations, the mangrove forests, the falls and the flora and fauna attracts attention among tourists. Apart from the natural wonders, the Municipality of Basey during World Ward II was the US Naval Base for intelligence more popularly known as the Joint Intelligence for Naval and Marine Operation Center (JINAMOC) that orchestrated the return of Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Today, the island is called Jinamoc Island. This island was vital to the war in the Pacific. From 1944 to 1945 the island became the seaplane base of the fighting flying boat which provides berthing and repair of the Patrol Bombing Squadron 20 and the amphibious forces. What remains now of the facilities are the ghosts of the once feared and dreaded forces.
