I feel like this book was extremely ridiculous. William Duffy sounds like he has a serious issue with food. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has an eating disorder. He talks about sugar as if it is going to be the downfall of the world. He goes back in ramblings of history which I feel, what in the world does this have to do with Sugar in the diet. I don’t feel as if refined sugar is bad for you, if you eat it in moderation. It sounds like William was going bonkers with his. He sounds like He was bullimic an now he is suffering from anorexia. I think the human body does need carbs and sugars to help the body with its processes. I feel that unless you have diabetes, ketosis or are insulin resistant, yeah, carbs and sugar are not good for you. But if you are a normal, healthy human being, it is fine, your body can handle it. I think people need to stop drinking so much sodas and juices and pastries and candies and get in the gym. I am sure that will make them feel and look better. This guy does nothing but try and strike fear instead of help.

I found this a hard read and didn’t understand really what was being discussed. Perhaps it’s just the beginning of the book that is this way because I didn’t make it past the first few chapters that deal with the history of sugar and generalizations made about the effects it had on history.

I am sure this book is good for some people, just not me. Never finished it. Yeah, I know, refined sugar is bad for me. It is all about moderation. Abstinence in an ideal perfect world. Maybe someday I will wipe the dust off the cover and finish the book, but I doubt it.

I was looking for a book about the effects of refined sugar on the body. Sugar Blues was a book about the history of refined sugar. Duffy repeatedly says how bad sugar is for you but doesn’t back it up with any explanations.
