I want to start using yoga in my daily life, BUT I am not flexible at all. I can’t reach my toes or do a split. How should I start out in order to start doing yoga? Thanks!

SO I guess the real question is do you have any routines uploaded? if so please send them my way! By the way I talk with my hands as well, I find it comforting… keep it up =)

I have noticed being stretched way to thin, and the need for a little more boundaries. NOT in an extreme way (I truly cant even imagine) but in a way that presents a strong front… I think this persona also “demands” a level of respect from others. Yes we are living in the physical world… so the connection of strength building would likly help to build a stronger persona and help in boundary building for the overly flexable person hahaha.

Many times I think about the choice we have of either being an “active” participant in our life, or to watch and see where life takes us. I have always believed everything happens for a reason and will happen the way it is meant to… so it has tended me to just be in the flow of what ever comes… but as you say in the video…

Tara thank you so much! I was just thinking about this today. For the past few years now I have been going with the Flow, focusing on being in the “flow of the Tao.” And today I realized I need to pick up my paddle and work WITH the rapids.

@randog69 Ha ha, revealing choice of words. I hope things improve for you. Perhaps then you will not carry the terrible burden of self importance to such hysterical levels. Namaste (:

To me “Yoga” is simultaneous awareness of body, mind and spirit unified. Everything is yoga. When I am weight-training my focus and body awareness are exactly the same as when I am stretching. And when I stretch, I simultaneously contract the muscles as hard as possible. This creates a “true” stretch. To observe a jungle cat or a ballerina is to know there is no contradiction between strength and flexibility, power and grace. The totality of myself without naming is already there. Namaste (:

You seem very interesting but try not talking with your hands. It’s very distracting and displays non confront.

As a Male I gravitated more to Strength i.e lifting weights. But now, with your yoga tecs I am getting more flexible and therefore more balance in my life…it’s groovy.

I started yoga at 15 (I’m now 28). I tended to also exploit my most flexible muscles when I first started doing yoga. I too gravitated then to strength building yoga. I killed my competitive nature the day I realized that I was comparing myself to other yogis, and ignoring the full purpose of yoga in my life. Yoga and I became best friends from there! I’m 28, and I still practice yoga everyday and teach it. :)

The balance between strength and flexibility is like the balance between effort and relaxation, especially b/c I am “type a” in a lot of ways. But recently I was doing yoga and noticed that the more strength I had in my leg, the more flexible it was. If I used my strength while trying to be flexible, it was safer. And then because I was flexible, I could build more strength. Effort and relaxation work in the same way — I can relax because I put in the effort, and I put in the effort to relax.

Tara, thank you for bringing up this topic. It got me thinking…

p.s. I’m a strong girl (both in life & yoga) who needs to work a lot on spine & hips flexibility.

Yes, the body as a spiritual instrument. The union/yoga of realities. Was waiting for you to get to this.

Experiential reality to body, body to experiential reality. Works both ways. Sure looks like it was designed that way.
    :)

Thanks for bringing a little enlightenment to youtubeland

And recently I’ve felt as you said like we’re “building the tower.” As I’ve worked harder and felt the my body becoming more healthy and strong I’ve also noticed that within my mind and self. Thank you for being you! -Danielle
