FitGamer Ep. 3 — Macronutrients 101

The third episode of FitGamer where I detail the importance of the different macronutrients, how they affect your body and which foods to avoid. I am not a nutrition specialist, doctor or personal trainer! “Sugar: The Bitter Truth” can be found here: www.youtube.com Description, taken from the video: “Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Series: UCSF Mini Medical School for the Public [7/2009] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 16717]“

    @kevic5552007 Not bad for you, but not really sustainable in the long term, and you’ll probably end up packing on a good bit of what you lost after reverting to a more normal nutrient breakdown. On top of that, veggies/fruit pack most of the essential nutrients, all of which are carbs. Hope you’re supplementing!

    I love what your doing here btw.. keeping gamers fit.. is a GOOD thing. lol. Though I have a question. I’m on this “Low-Carb” diet. In which i limit myself to 30 carbs per day kicking myself into a state of “Ketosis”. In this state, your body switches to fat as it’s main source of energy, and burns fat (and protein/me eats lots of chicken) fast! It works.. I call it.. “The WoW Diet”, being a pretty HM Raider, and eating like this, causes me to lose weight. What are your thoughts? bad for me?

    @everettknag I actually did a huge report on genetically modified food. What genetically modified does to the body is mostly unknown. The FDA does not regulate GM food. My advice would be to stay away from GM food. It hasn’t been proven one way or another what the effects of GM food are but there is some evidence that suggests some negative effects could be caused.

    today I was bored and watching videos on hulu. while browsing the the movies i stumbled across a documentary called “the Future of Food” which is about genetically modified foods and other new food technologies such as pesticides and herbicides. So, I’m just wondering what your opinion on these things might be.

    @PinkCitronnade You have a point, but I feel many gamers feel like the only way to change the way they eat/their lifestyle is to quit gaming all together. I think what Mandy is trying to make out is that it is fine to do what you want with your spare time, and be healthy at the same time. I am a girl and I play WoW far too much, and I am trying to cut down by doing other things as well as WoW, but I won’t quit because I don’t feel I need to. You don’t need to exercise every minute of the day.

    @jenifyer Ahhhhhh since when is the FDA credible? FDA= Fatal Delaying Apparatus. The government knows absolutely NOTHING about health. I would suggest Gary Taubes book Good Calories Bad Calories. Our ancestors have been eating saturated fats for centuries without heart disease.

    @xxdiogenescynicxx
    Coconut oil is comprised of 90% saturated fat, 6% monounsaturated fat, and 2% polyunsaturated fat. ANY saturated fat is advised to be avoided by the FDA. A study suggests that it may increase the build-up of plaques in your coronary arteries, which puts you at risk for heart disease. Either way, if you cook with any oils, it should be extra virgin olive oil or conola. :D

    I completely agree. I have been gaming since 1999 and all I ate was junk food and drank Monsters. After exercising and eating well, not only do I LOOK amazing, I FEEL amazing. And since Aliena and I tend to eat healthier, we crave less of artificial candies and greasy fast food! I love this segment, and keep in mind these are men you are pitching to, their bodies don’t change quite like ours (until age catches up with them!) So thank you so much. : )
